Isa na namang Pilipino ang nagpamalas ng kanyang galing na siyang nagpamangha sa buong mundo dahil sa kanyang angking talento.
A Filipino in the name of Doroteo Gerardo N. “Gerry” Alanguilan, Jr. starred as another Youtube sensation, this time in the British TV.
Through his one in a million humor and most especially his awesome smile, he became Philippines’ internet sensation seen around the globe.
Gerry and his funny captivating smile was featured in the primetime prime time celebrity program ‘The Graham Norton Show’ on BBC One, and quirky comedy series ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’ on BBC Three.
Even this “taga-Laguna” artist and writer did not imagine that he will rise famous around the world with his Youtube video “Hey Baby”. In it, he delivers a decidedly cheesy smile to the camera which captured the imagination of the online community.
The “Hey Baby” video earned more than 2 million hits after it was posted a year ago. Over 5 million hits were earned collectively for his posted videos in his own Youtube channel which has over 18,000 subscribers.
The internet sensation reached the United Kingdom through ‘The Graham Norton Show’, where the famous chat show host used Alanguilan’s clip to teach facial expressions to British boxing champion David Haye, who was reportedly considering an acting career in Hollywood.
Moreover, the clip was also featured in two episodes of “Russell Howard’s Good News,” where the eponymous host used Alanguilan’s smile as part of his stand-up routine about the funny side of current affairs in Britain.
According to Gerry, he just wanted to emulate the smile of Dule Hill from PSYCH but it turned out that he did not imitate the smile. What happened is that he had his own smile that captured everyone.
Various television shows have featured Gerry. Some of the countries he was already shown include Spain, Japan and the USA. Utilizing his marketing strategy, he had put up his own brand of smile in products including T-shirts, calendars, mugs, mouse pads, underwear, clocks, aprons and pillow cases.
“Gerry” Alanguilan, born January 20, 1968, is a Filipino comic book artist and writer from San Pablo City, Laguna.
